What Is Inner Calm?

Inner Calm is a  compassionate space offering support for emotional wellbeing, stress, and life’s challenges. Led by Tracey, an experienced coach, grief educator, and advanced NeurOptimal® trainer. Inner Calm is built up of two main areas, NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback & EFT (tapping). Tracey provides personalised support through compassionate coaching, EFT, grief support, and gentle neurofeedback. Each session is tailored to support nervous system regulation, emotional clarity, and a deeper sense of inner calm—helping you feel seen, supported, and grounded as you move forward.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

A practical, body-based approach to reducing stress and releasing emotional blockages. EFT helps bring these underlying issues to the surface by gently tapping on acupressure points while focusing on the specific feelings or situations causing distress.

NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback

NeurOptimal® offers a gentle yet effective pathway to a brighter sense of well-being by enhancing performance and focus through feedback to the Central Nervous System (CNS) enhances mental clarity, empowering us to become more resilient in the face of life’s challenges.

NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback

NeurOptimal® is a neurofeedback brain training tool that enhances brain flexibility, working towards a mind that can readily adjust and react to changes.

It’s widely used in physical rehab, elite sports, and pain clinics around the world — and now available right here in Nelson.

When the CNS (central nervous system) is healthy, it is flexible and resilient, but when it’s overwhelmed, we can feel stuck and anxious. NeurOptimal® offers adaptive information, guiding the brain back to its innate wisdom and capabilities.

Presenting real-time CNS activity, NeurOptimal® helps the brain understand and process this information, leading to meaningful transformation. It monitors electrical activity, reflecting brain patterns to highlight shifts, allowing the CNS to self-regulate and reduce discomfort.

NeurOptimal® can alert the CNS so that it can make the decision to move away from discomfort and back to more adaptive responses.

Grief & loss

I went to NeurOptimal® because I was struggling with self confidence and anxiety. Tracey made me feel really relaxed and calm with the whole thing. At first I was nervous to do this, but after my 3rd session I was so much more confident in myself and not nervous to go anymore. I feel it has helped me because I am so much more confident and I feel like I can recognise and manage my anxiety. I highly recommend NeurOptimal®

Client

I have an 8yr old in my care and before using NeurOptimal® he was unable to settle once a tantrum started, he was quite defiant and angry at times. After only 6 sessions of NeurOptimal® he is calmer, responding better and I am able to negotiate with him. He is also more focused in the evenings, his sleep has improved and he now gets ready for school in the mornings without arguments

The Tapping Points

EFT involves tapping on specific meridian points while speaking affirmations or expressing thoughts related to your emotional or physical concerns. Here are the primary tapping points:

What Can EFT Help With?

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Feeling overwhelmed or stuck

  • Emotional blocks or past experiences

  • Poor sleep or racing thoughts

  • Chronic tension or pain

  • Confidence and performance issues

It’s used by adults and children all over the world.

What Can EFT Help With? How Does It Work?

When you’re stressed, your body stays in “fight or flight” mode. Tapping:

  • Sends calming signals to your brain

  • Lowers stress hormones (like cortisol)

  • Helps your body feel safe again

This makes it easier to think clearly and move forward.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many sessions will I need?

EFT (tapping): The number of EFT sessions varies from person to person and depends on what you’d like support with, how long it has been present, and how resourced you feel in your day‑to‑day life. Some people feel a noticeable shift within a few sessions around a specific issue, while others choose to work more slowly and spaciously over a longer period, especially when long‑held patterns are involved.

NeurOptimal®: With NeurOptimal®, it can help to think in terms of a block of sessions rather than a single visit. Some people notice changes early, others prefer a steadier rhythm over more sessions, and because every nervous system is different it is not possible to predict in advance how you will respond or how many sessions you will want. The number and spacing of sessions are decided together over time, guided by what you notice in your day‑to‑day life rather than a fixed formula.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

At your first appointment, there will be time to gently explore what has brought you here, what part of your life you’d like support with, and I’ll explain the process in clear, simple language. You’ll be invited to share any relevant history at a pace that feels manageable so we can get a sense of what feels most important to you. For NeurOptimal® sessions, we will also talk about gentle ways to notice and track potential changes over time, such as shifts in sleep, stress, focus, or day‑to‑day capacity.

How does NeurOptimal work?

NeurOptimal® is a form of neurofeedback that monitors your brain’s electrical activity in real time while you listen to music. When the system detects sudden shifts in brain activity, it gives tiny interruptions in the sound, which act like a mirror to help your brain notice its own patterns and naturally self‑adjust. It does not push your brain toward a pre-set outcome; instead, it offers moment‑to‑moment information so your nervous system can find more efficient, stable states on its own.

Is NeurOptimal safe, and are there side effects?

NeurOptimal® is considered a non‑invasive brain training system, as the sensors simply read your brain’s activity while you sit back, relax, and listen to audio. Practitioners commonly describe it as suitable for a wide range of ages and needs. The system does not force the brain in any direction but offers feedback the brain can use or ignore. Any changes people notice after sessions (such as shifts in mood, energy, or sleep) are seen as the brain reorganising itself in response to that real‑time information.

How does EFT (tapping) work?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called tapping, combines gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with focused attention on a particular emotion, memory, or problem. As you tap, the combination of staying present to the distressing thought or feeling while giving the body a calming, rhythmic stimulus is thought to help reduce the emotional charge and support nervous system regulation.

Is this therapy?

The support offered here is not therapy or a replacement for working with a licensed mental health professional. The work is grounded in coaching, NeurOptimal® neurofeedback, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), which are used to support nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, and practical coping in everyday life.
